Signaling

Too often we get caught up in a hard, physical mindset when it comes to fitness. Burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight. Tear down muscle, & you will rebuild it bigger. Those are two common “rules” in the fitness industry. There are big elements of truth to those statements. However, I do not think that is the entire story. What if there was another force at work?

Enter signaling. What if building muscle was just as much about the body needing to be stronger as it was tearing down & rebuilding? What does that matter? Well it changes our philosophy of training for one. Would it change how we train? Yes. What if certain types of training signal the body that it needs to be lean to survive & can therefore not be stingy with the fat? What if certain dietary habits signal the body to store fat, no matter how hard you cut calories or exercise? What if signaling can at times override the balance between the four components of health? Would that change our lifestyle? Yes.

Signaling is the transmitting of information or commands that cause the body to change or adapt. Signaling is a whole new way to look at health & life. While there is no doubt underlying scientific explanations (that have or have yet to be discovered), the beauty of signaling is that we can use it to view strength, performance, diet, & health in general through logical & philosophical lens.

Signaling opens up an array of vast new possibilities! Signaling allows people to logically come to their own conclusions while also setting the stage for new advances in training knowledge & methods! Look for how you can use the concept of signaling to effectively evaluate information before you personally use it for your own body & health journey.
